Notre Dame School has been fully accredited through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools as of April 23, 1996. Christ is the reason for this school and therefore a strong, supportive environment is present to encourage each student to grow spiritually academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. Parental support is encouraged at Notre Dame School. Notre Dame School is organized with a preschool through eighth grade program.

Preschool

In the preschool program, our main goal is to teach students the ways of God and prepare them for formal instruction in the coming years. There is a three/four-year- old program and a four/five-year- old program organized on different days of the week.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten children must be five years old by September 1st of the incoming school year and parents have a choice of sending their child to full day kindergarten or one-half day/morning sessions. The Kindergarten classes are self-contained with an emphasis on reading and math readiness and developing socialization skills.

Primary Grades

In the primary program (1-3) classes are self-contained. This arrangement fosters an atmosphere for the teacher to know and challenge each child individually. This arrangement also gives each child the continued security needed to develop his/her full potential.

Intermediate

In fourth and fifth grade, students experience transition from self-contained to departmentalized instruction. It is an opportunity for the student to step into a departmentalized program while retaining the security of a few teachers. The homeroom teacher teaches language arts. Math, science, social studies, religion, music, art, and physical education are departmentalized. Each year a foreign language is taught two class periods a week.

Middle School

Grades six-eight are fully departmentalized. This program allows students to take greatest advantage of teachers who are specialized in particular subject areas. The students may be flexibly grouped in order to provide the opportunity for each to reach full potential. Special teachers offer art, music, computer, religion, foreign language, study skills, and physical education once or twice a week.

Assessment

Students are assessed in these ways: standardized tests, teacher-made tests, participation, projects, homework, class notebooks, quizzes, and teacher observation.
